Pepper Soup & Paint!
Why Pepper ("Pep-peh") Soup?
Well, Liberians LOVE Fufu and Soup. There are so many different kinds of soup but there's just something about Pepper Soup.
The Inaugural Pepper Soup & Paint Virtual Liberian Independence Day Celebration was a success! We had a blast. Great music, friends, laughs and most importantly PEPPER SOUP and our PAINT-ing! We virtually celebrated Liberian Independence Day 2020 on Sunday, July 26th 2020 with “Sweet” homemade “Pep-peh” Soup, a “For Him” or “For Her” canvas wearing our Limited Edition tee!
Everyone who registered received their choice of a “For Her” or “For Him” box and had to choose their shirt size. The canvas image was a surprise. The event’s virtual painter was Eric Bridges and our virtual DJ was DJ K-Star.
Eric Bridges (our amazing artist) did an incredible job with our fresh and edgy canvases and with leading us to an artistic paradise. DJ K-Star was so dope! He set the vibe for the event with the best mix of African music. I closed my eyes for a second and thought I was in a lounge.
Is it possible to have too much fun? Absolutely NOT!
The crew (our participants) rocked their Limited Edition "Long Live Liberia" tee and beasted their canvases. Listen, Picasso and da Vinci MUST have been in the building.
The crew cooked up some Pepper "Pep-peh" Soup. Lawdhavmercy!!! Never had Vegan Pepper Soup but it looked so good. The Seafood Pepper Soup had all types of seafood in it. GEEZ!! I could literally taste their soup through the screen.
The feedback was mind-blowing but don't take my word for it. See for yourself! Click here for a brief recap of the event.
My mom's Pepper Soup is known in the community to be "Sweet". When Liberians say something is sweet we mean that it is EXTREMELY delicious. Pepper Soup is highly savory, a tad bit spicy and indescribably delicious.
I remember being in the kitchen watching my mother cutting up her vegetables, seasoning her meats and seafood, and getting that pot boiling. It always amazed me how cutting onions never seemed to burn her eyes. I suffer every time! Within seconds of the boil the fragrance of all the seasonings would fill the room. She would always say "Hawa, you have to take your time with soup. Don't rush it or you will spoil it." Now that I am older and can make it myself, I get it!
I want you to have that same feeling while you are making your own Pepper Soup at home. Cultivating ingredients into an everlasting flavorful bowl of deliciousness. You don't have to be Liberian to make it or to love it!
